Receiving regular eye exams, even in the absence of problems, is the key to good vision. We encourage a professional eye examination at least every two years to age 64, then annually from age 65. Diabetics are recommended to have a dilated eye examination performed annually.

Taking the time for preventive eye exams can lead to early detection and treatment, and possibly prevent vision loss. It is important to notify your physician, optometrist or ophthalmologist of any changes in your vision or eyes, such as:

• Double vision
• Distorted or wavy lines and edges
• A dark spot at the center of viewing
• Difficulty focusing on near or distant objects
• Excessive tearing
• Dry eyes with itching or burning
• Inflammation, drainage and/or redness of the eye or eyelid
• Pain in one or both eyes
• Decreased night vision
• Sudden vision loss
• Sudden hazy or blurred vision
• Flashes of light or black spots
